Bittersweet

I gave my mom a lemon tree for Mother's Day last May (2011), saying something hokey and hopeful about making lemonade when life hands you lemons.

And then life really handed her lemons.

Today she sent me this photo. A lemon has bloomed in a happy shade of yellow. It makes me a little happy, a little grumpy, but mostly in awe of life's persistence.
