Lady C & WHS

I found this mug in a charity shop the other day and it started me thinking ...

... when Lady Chatterley's Lover was due to be published as an unexpurgated edition by Penguin books in 1960 a group of us from school placed an order for it at a W. H. Smith's in Birmingham. We waited eagerly and eventually assembled in order to pick our copy up. Making for a near-by tea shop we took turns to flick through it and decided on the order in which the group would read it. I wasn't first!

So, my question to you is, do you remember this notorious event?
