Boiled Whitebait on Shredded White Radish
This was something my wife ate. Personally I have a policy of avoiding anything with eyes. Even just taking this snap I felt as though I was being watched.
Of course I can stomach these if I really have to, when they're boiled, but the Japanese also have something called odorigui, which literally means "dancing food." These little shirasu whitebait fish swim around in a small bowl, and you douse them with sake and soy sauce to calm them down, and then slurp them up. Sometimes a couple wiggle out from between your lips, but oh so fresh.
