Hooghhh??

Exams are over for January and I feel good! I feel as triumphant as this elephant looks. This was bought on holiday in Sri Lanka a few years back and I love the colours and the great hand-painted details. It looks very celebratory decked out in its full festival regalia which is how I feel right now.

This brings me onto an interesting question of how does one write down the noise that an elephant makes in an onomatopoeic way? Trying to work this out has given me great amusement in inventing now onomatopoeic words. My attempt for a pig (which don't go oink its more of a snuffling snorting sound) is 'hooghhh'. I can't think of a decent one for an elephant though, my best is "pfwwoooaarr". Unfortunately this sounds more like a man opening to page 3...

Any suggestions?
