Learning Java from the very begining

As I'm doing nothing at work until they find a new project for me, I asked to learn Java, I wanted to be assigned to a project as a trainee, but, this morning I got from my manager hands a book for learning Java.
I think I'm going to learn it from the very basics as the book dates from 1996 not so long after Java was created.
