America?s Smallest Songbird

Yesterday, I watched this Verdin flit around all around these brown pods. Lighting down for only a nanosecond - he'd peck, pause, look around. Peck, Pause, look around. Very hyper, aware little guy. If I approached too close, he was outta there.
Today, I returned with my camera, and used my golf cart as a blind. It took me a while to find the "sweet spot", not too close or too far away. I love the little red emblem on his shoulder. Must be a bird of great honor.
