Rainy Day in Oregon

Flooding

Our house is on the property to the right of the river in this pic. Out of sight because of all the trees. I don't know what that alder tree is doing in the middle of the river. It doesn't belong there. Surprised it was standing.
Guess I'll look tomorrow and see if it's still there. River quite high. Hubby pulled the river stairs up even higher today because the water was rising to just below them and there is a lot of debris (meaning logs, whole trees, flotsam and jetsam) in the river. We didn't want something to take out the stairs. Five places along our road where water was running across it. None of it river water. Just lots of streams and run-off or plugged culverts. Maybe not plugged, just couldn't handle the amount of water coming into them. Lots of farmers fields flooded. Hey, say that 3 times fast. This evening we noticed the water has gone down quite a bit. Hasn't rained as much the latter half of the day.

A tragedy in a town near here when a young mother and her toddler died after a car they were in was swept into a creek and submerged. A man and 5 year old were able to escape. They were driving out of a grocery store parking lot of all things, when the car was pulled into the stream by the rising waters. It was dark, I guess the driver couldn't see where the road was.
My heart goes out to their families.
