Smoky Chimney

Down on the River Clyde today when I noticed the smoke coming out of the big chimney at the Gorbals. I don't think it is real smoke, perhaps just steam from the brewery.
It makes me think of the days when Glasgow had hundereds of these thing churning out black sooty smoke. All the tenements were black with it and if you were hanging out your washing to dry on Glasgow Green it may not be Persil white. A change now when the air around the park is nice and fresh and clean. Well apart from the traffic that is. And maybe a wee scent of the brewing process.
