Leave it!!
Breagha won't take her breakfast or dinner until we tell her to "take it". Sometimes, just to be extra cruel, we leave her for a wee while, just to reinforce that we are the pack leaders, and it's on our command that she eats, and of course, she doesn't get it till we have eaten, because the top dogs always eat first!! She sleeps in the kitchen, not allowed upstairs to sleep, never on the bed. We have to go through doors first, and she birls in circles till we go through. But she is allowed on the sofa with us for loads of cuddles, and we love her to bits.
We were instructed to do all these things at puppy training class by the scariest dog trainer ever!! She bawled me out in a full class of dogs and owners when little puppy Breagha and I were doing walking to heel. I would shout "heel" to Breagha and of course she was pulling like a cocker with my arm at full length. IT'S NOT HEEL, IT'S "CLOSE", I was nearly deafened by her shouting. Every night after the class we would come home in despair that she would ever learn anything. Eventually, things fell into place and she is mostly a lovely obedient dog, bonkers at times and great fun. Loves children and will play fetch all day if she could.
My previous dog Bonnie, was a real character, but she only did what I said, would take your hand off if her bowl was taken away from her, snarled at other dogs as she believed she was human, almost took the vets hand off (and then he gave me a telling off for not getting her used to hands in her mouth and ears as a pup). She used to growl at my husband if he dared to sit with me on the sofa. She would position herself between us then turn to face him and give him a hard stare and dog breath in his face! Ben can pull Breagha's ears and grab her fur and she just gets up and goes to her bed but Bonnie would have nipped him as quick as winkie!!
She is very attractive to male dogs at the moment, but we are not wanting any boyfriends so she is on the lead unless in the middle of nowhere!! She is good at keeping herself clean and apart from wee spots on her rug, you would never be any the wiser.
Jeepers, I have written loads tonight!! Got carried away writing about the wee soul:-))
Swimming at 6.30 again this morning.
