Suds
First, I'd like to thank everyone for all of the attention, kind words and hearts for yesterday's blip. I even got a spotlight.
I like this shot a lot. I took it on a walk down a street on the east side of Tucson. Here's some pertinent trivia.
Up Close.
Top Banana:
Harry Steppe was a Jewish-American actor, musical comedy performer, headline comedian and writer who toured North America working in Vaudeville and Burlesque. Phil Silvers and others credited Steppe with introducing the phrase "top banana" into show business jargon in 1927 as a synonym for the top comic on the bill. It rose out of a routine, full of doubletalk, in which three comics tried to share two bananas.
Steppe also claimed to have coined the phrase "Second Banana." I guess you wouldn't see a hair salon with that name. I'm guessing the racist looking picture is supposed to be a throwback to the vaudeville and burlesques days when whites sometimes performed in black face.
Jamaican beer:
Red Stripe, the most popular Jamaican beer, was first brewed by the Desnoes and Gedes Co. in 1928 as an ale. In 1938 D&G changed the recipe of Red Stripe to make it a lager and this same recipe is in use today. In 1993 it was taken over by Guinness Brewing Worldwide who went on to market Red Stripe internationally. The alcohol content is 4.7%
What do these two storefronts have in common? Well...they both like neon.
