York Railway Station
This is York railway station, on the East Coast Main Line between London and Edinburgh.
When it opened in 1877, this station with its thirteen platforms was the largest railway station in the world. It is outside the York city walls, and has been repeatedly modernised and refurbished since its opening. The most recent refurbishment was in 2009, where (amongst other things) the lighting system for the station was extensively updated.
I love all the Victorian detail, like the little English flags hidden high amongst the metalwork. I wonder how many commuters here take the time to look as they rush past on their daily business?
