On Our Doorstep

Well.... nearly!

We have lived in Lanarkshire for 39 years ! Today we visited Chatelherault Country Park for the very first time and were stunned by what we had been missing for at least the past 20 years, since the building was saved and renovated, and the park developed for public access. There was so much we had not really understood ..... the scale of the Hamilton estate ; the fact that this William Adam designed building was not a country house but the dog kennels for the estate hounds and a 'garden ornament' designed to be pleasing to the eye when viewed from Hamilton Palace at the other end of a tree lined grand avenue; that the Hamilton who planned the landscape was the same Duchess Anne we know from Brodick Castle, where the Hamiltons had another estate.

Am I channeling Duchess Ann in my choice of Sunday outings?

Now we need to visit Bothwell Castle, apparently the "finest ... castle architecture" in Scotland and, similarly , on our doorstep!
