Kiln formed glass
Kiln formed glass is a modern technique of making glass objects. The glass is cut and laid on a flat sheet or a former-a mould. It is then put in the kiln to melt. When it melts it fuses together.
Popular items are flat tableware, coasters and items to hang in the window. The moulds have very shallow sides because, if the sided are too steep then the glass all falls to the bottom of the mould and it is spoiled. I did a course ages ago and this piece was made with two pieces of red at the side and scrap bits in the middle. It tends to be expensive.
It is very easy to do - no skill required, not like hot glass which needs years of training to make something.
