A life in the day....

What did you do at the weekend?

The New Horizon district Klondike Derby is one of the favorite camps for the boys. We drive north for an hour - or this weekend, more like two hours, due to the snowstorm we were driving through, and then set up our tents in the dark.
My job was to light the fire and heat up water for cocoa. In return, the scouts pitched my tent.
It got cold overnight - 0F - but we were well prepared, and in return for lighting the fire and heating water for breakfast cocoa and oatmeal, the scouts took my tent down. I think I got the best deal on that one!
We spent the day pushing a wooden sled around various stations, where the boys demonstrated their scout skills. There was very little wind, and the sun came out, making it a very beautiful day to be out.
At the end of the competition, our two sleds both acquitted themselves honorably, and in fact, Elliott's sled won 1st place.
We rounded off the trip with a meal for the scouts and their families at Pizza Hut.
