Fresh eggs aplenty
My first set of chickens were battery hens. They came in a terrible state. They were a joy though. They also laid throughout the winter. Not very many eggs but we did get them.
The battery chickens were taken by the fox. A very sad day.
I got some new ones last summer. I decided not to have battery because I found the nursing back to health bit a little stressful.
I got some posh chickens this time, a black rock etc. They are lovely but more skittish than the battery ones and not as friendly.
Anyway winter came and they stopped laying!!!!! I was rather upset. Turns out normal chickens stop in the winter. I assumed this was a bit of a myth as the battery ones laid throughout.
Anyway we had to buy eggs at Christmas!!!!
However we are back in full lay now. Oh and they are lovely lovely eggs.
I had three today and promptly ate two in an omelette. Now I know it looks more like scramble. My omlettes are not aesthetically pleasing but by golly they are tasty.
I thought Lucy was not well yesterday but I think she is need of worming so I have started that today.
Also thank you so so so much for the stars and comments for yesterday's blip. I was really pleased with it. I think I am getting better when I have the time to use the big camera.
