Banksy in Luxor?
This could easily be mistaken as a piece by Banksy. A wall that was covered in Revolution grafitti has been turned into a work of art, literally by art students from the Luxor Art Faculty.
The colours used, are mainly of the Egyptian Flag, red, white and black. The people depicted all have wings, symbolising freedom.
As I stood taking in the emotion, that was so very clearly instrumental in the painting of this wall, a young man walked by, his hand making the Victory sign 'Welcome to Freedom Country. You are welcome'
Men stopped to look, take photographs with their mobile phones and others were more than happy to explain some of the Arabic writing.
So much art has materialised in the last year, full of frustration, anger, solidarity and now strength.
All very poignant today, as 2 days before the Anniversary of the Egyptian Revolution, Egypt holds its first Parliament session post Mubarak. Televisions in all the shops were blaring out the sounds of, what seemed to me, as a very lively Parliament!
It has begun, a true feeling today of a new start. Egypt is moving Forward.
More street art (I think you will be impressed!)
