The Greatest Ever Ranger

John Greig is a famous Rangers footballer, voted by Rangers fans as the 'The Greatest Ever Ranger' in 1999 and elected to Rangers' Hall of Fame. A statue of him stands outside the Ibrox Park Stadium, home to Rangers FC in Ibrox, Glasgow.

John Greig played his entire career with Rangers, playing between 1961-1978. In this period he played 498 League matches scoring 86 goals, 73 Scottish Cup matches with 9 goals, 120 Scottish League matches with 17 goals and 64 Union of European Football Associations (UEFA) matches with 7 goals across Europe.

In addition to this, John Greig played for Scotland on 44 occasions between 1964-71, 15 as captain. After leaving the field, Greig spent a short, but relatively unsuccessful, time as Rangers manager before leaving that to work in Radio Scotland and BBC television. In the 1990's John Greig was re-employed by Rangers as part of their publicity and public relations team. He continues to contribute to youth development and joined the Rangers board of directors in 2003. John Greig was made a Member of the Order of the British Empire (MBE) on 15 November 1977.
