Uncle

While visiting my grandmother in Bratislava, I spent a lot of time with my uncle Voloda.

In 2004 he fell ill with brain cancer. It completely changed his life.
The doctors did not give him very much time. He underwent several treatments including a year and a half of chemotherapy. Now it is 2008 and he has more than defied the odds put against him and lives a regular life.

He told me that there were two moments during his illness that made him not give up:
- To see his son finish medical school.
- To not let his mother outlive him.

On a lighter note, several days ago my Canon SD400 (IXUS50) broke. I want to keep taking photographs on this trip, and I knew that my next camera purchase would be an SLR. Now I am shooting with a Canon Rebel XTi (EOS 400D). I like this camera very much and can hardly put it down.
