Seldom combined impressions
I am reading a novel from a Flemish author Erwin Mortier. The title is Godenslaap which is Sleep of Gods. It is very well written, in a kind of Marcel Proust richness that one finds rarely in contemporary authors writing in Dutch. It is about how the war influences the life of a mother and daughter in France without the direct violence, war from a distance so to speak, but with a devastating effect all the same.
Driving to work this morning I took this picture and in this black and white it seems to fit the book's atmosphere some how.
On the car radio the newly discovered piece of piano music by Johannes Brahms was playing for me and many people to hear for the first time.
The book, the train, the bridge and the music was 'unheimlich' all together.
