The horrors...

I'm trying to renovate my kitchen just now. For the most part, it is going fairly smoothly. Jobs are taking a little longer than planned, but otherwise I can't complain... too much.

On removing the sink unit today, I discovered this. It seems there used to be a socket here, long since removed. However, I suspect these wires were uncovered when my new boiler was installed two years ago - and left exposed in a place where the chance of water getting near them is quite high.

I should point out that these are live cables.

As if that wasn't enough, I also found an amazingly badly wired double socket further along the wall. It is electrically safe but looks more like the work of an extremely dumb home DIY-er rather than the professional I paid good money to.

Oh, and then there are the freshly run cables from a switch to the boiler - the plaster having been pulled out to get at them but then not replaced to finish the job.

It's disheartening to think that people can make such a hash of a job and consider it ok. If I was as bad at my job, I'd be fired in an instant.

Anyway, I've got a second coat of colour to paint on the walls.
