Golden Trumpet
Another press photocall. This is the gold-plated trumpet that has been gifted to the University of Edinburgh in recognition of its pioneering research into music. The instrument was created by one of the UK's leading makers of musical instruments, and trumpet designer Dr Richard Smith and brass instrument maker Richard Wright came up from York to present it to the University's celebrated collection of Historic Musical Instruments. The trumpet, which was designed and crafted last year, is the 1000th instrument to be produced by the Smith-Watkins partnership based in York. A complete set of nine gold-plated lead-pipes is also being gifted. This is Lisa, a music PhD student and assistant curator at the Collection with the trumpet inside the Reid Concert Hall.
