Satyr angelwing
My "Local Butterflies of the San Francisco Bay Area" chart says these are present year round in riparian areas. We saw this beauty at Sibley Volcanic Regional Preserve, which is a dry area, but there is a stream nearby, so... that description makes sense. It was, again, an unseasonably warm and dry day, the warmth may have encouraged this one to fly a fairly long distance.
