Austrtalia Day BBQ
Australia Day celebrates the first white settlement on 26th January 1788 when Captain Phillip, with a ship full of convicts, set up camp at what is now The Rocks area in Sydney. Yesterday, and even this morning, I certainly didn't think we would be doing this. Our street has an Australia Day BBQ by the river each year and even though the rain had eased to just light showers this morning, we had decided it would be silly to attempt it. However by midday the rain had stopped and down we went. Not a lot of people turned up this year - I think they all thought the same as we initially did. However I'm really pleased we went - we had a great afternoon and caught up with some of the neighbourhood folk who we only see a few times a year. The water is quite high and lapping the banks but it was a beautiful afternoon by the water. I put a photo of Oyster Channel in blipfolio if anyone is interested in seeing the height of the water River High
So no flooding yet but more heavy rain is predicted for the weekend. Hopefully by then, this lot will have moved out to sea.
