Mournings in the Morning

After I wheel the doctor around the hospital to see his patients, I follow him to his office to help him up the ramp. We were half-way to the office today...when I saw a good-sized hawk on a telephone wire. What to do...what to do? On the one hand...Doc will be waiting for me. On the other hand...how many hawks do I get to see? I stopped and got 6 shots before he flew off. I noticed he flew into a big tree.

I got the doc into his office, and decided to try to return to the scene...20-25 minutes later. Being a very patient hunter...he was in the same tree. I took another 25 shots. All of them were awful. I needed a pep talk after my stalk and gawk of the hawk.

I decided to head for home on some back roads that I have never been on. The kind of roads where the best sign is PAVEMENT ENDS AHEAD. Woods and farms and marshes and swamps. Another hawk, horses, and a stalking black cat. STAY HIDDEN...MY LITTLE MICE!!!

I was near what I call a cow-pasture golf course (Bramblewood) when I saw the birds on the wire. I was thinking starlings.

As I looked up above...I could see they were doves. I took off my glove. I started counting. 76 mourning doves led the big parade. Unheard of. They let me get closer and closer without much movement. Soon...my van was right underneath the pole, and I got off 40 shots.

I wanted action from the doves up above. Push came to shove. I pushed on my car horn, and the doves from above...left...in search of...less hassle. My trigger finger was not fast enough to make it from the horn to the shutter.

Watching Federer-Nadal (tennis) in the Australian Open. I always root for the old guy (Federer), although I like them both. Volleyball tonight.
