Styes of Aikerness

Back burning the cut lodgepole pines at the Birsay Moors reserve. A decent day but everything was very wet from all the rain recently and we couln't get good fires going. We had three small ones burning, but they never reached that satisfying level of burn where you could throw on anything and it would go 'whoomf'.

We piled up all the remaining brash so that it might dry in the wind and then burn much better next week. A woodcock was in the cut stuff. In the air passed ravens, a peregrine falcon and a hen harrier.
