On Sunday I fly to Kenya.
Today I visited the chemist.
Doxycycline as an anti-malarial.
Probiotics to replace some of the good bacteria killed by the antibiotic.
Oral and external thrush treatment as this is a possible side-effect of Doxycycline.
Sun-screen, factor 50.
Insect repellent, 50% DEET.
Antihistamine to relieve itching of bug bites.
Multi-vitamins.
Ovex to treat possible threadworm; I am working with children.
Diarrhoea relief in case my body reacts badly to the food/water.
Throat lozenges; I always get a sore throat after time spent on a plane.
Paracetemol and Ibuprofen: In Kenya, a random survey by the National Quality Control Laboratories (NQCL) and the Pharmacy and Poisons Board found that almost 30% of drugs in Kenya were counterfeit.
Plus all of the usual toiletries; toothpaste, toothbrush, shampoo, baby wipes, conditioner, sanitary towels, Vaseline, deodorant, soap?
Tomorrow I have my Yellow Fever vaccine. This is not strictly needed as Yellow Fever is not found in Kenya, but my travel insurance policy denotes that I must have it to be appropriately covered.
Probably over-prepared, which is odd as the final preparations of a trip I have been expecting for months have all been very last minutes; flights, vaccinations, visas, anti-malarials, clothes, travel insurance etc have all been bought within a week of my destination date.
