Doo Hut

An american cousin once asked me if these ominous structures were World War II guard towers left over from the war .They are of course Doo Huts or Pigeon Coops . Newspaper Copy boys used to train pigeons to carry film to be flown back to the office at half time during local football matches as the last editions of the paper were sold outside the ground at the end of the game.I was once told in local legend that rival Newspapers used to pay local kids to shoot the birds as they flew overhead as they would miss the vital goal pictures for edition.
