Wordsmithing

A lot not like fireworks

I've often stood, staring into the heavens, awestruck by the conjunction of two or more heavenly bodies. To see the moon and planets in proximity or close alignment strikes some visceral chord somewhere inside.

And then I sit back and think how ridiculous it is. Imagine this: You're sitting in the grass at the side of the highway and cars are going by all day long then you see a car coming the other way. You become overly exciting and awestruck, thinking. "They're close together!" And then they move off. That ever happen to you? No, me neither. It's just a couple of things that are far apart, move together and then move off again. Hardly rates a mention in an exhaustive list of things I did today.

But, turn those cars into the Moon and Venus and there is something that quickens in the blood. What the hell is the fascination with astronomical conjunction? It's not even random; you can predict them eons into the future. It won't stop me being amazed; but I just don't get it.
