Poplar (again)

I blipped this last week, but was struck by doubts about whether it was a poplar or not... The thing is, that it's obviously a poplar, but if you try and find pictures and information about poplars online it's very confusing, and it threw me.

So... this is a Lombardy poplar, but it seems that all Lombardy poplars in the UK are males and are grown from cuttings. So the tree identification books don't seem to think of them as being proper British trees, and only mention Aspens, White poplars and black poplars, none of which look like the Lombardy poplar...
