Gruesome Guards

A brisk walk with Pip in the buggy on a cold winter's day took an unexpected turn when I spotted a piece of paper decalring that the Anatomical Museum in the University of Edinburgh was open to the public for one day only.

Spot of luck and in we went.

Now, luckily for those out there having dinner, breakfast, or lunch, no photography was allowed once you went through these doors. So I snapped the two guarding elephants.

Pip and I saw many interesting sights. Some disturbing (skeletons of unborn babies etc). Others a bit stomach churning like the human head sawn down the middle and floating in formaldehyde.

All in all, good clean medical stuff!

Then there was Bowed Joseph's boiled and cleaned skeleton. Gosh, he must have been in a lot of pain and he must have been a sight and a half. The ability to command 10,000 men in an uprising at will meant he must have been held by commoners in very high regard.

Before today I had never heard of him.

After seeing his skeleton I will never forget.
