31. multiculturalism
not too long ago, one of my great things about texas was #20. for those of you who don't remember, that's where i talked about the value of having such an intense integration with hispanic culture here.
but also, i love that texas is extremely multicultural as well, which is not true of everywhere in the united states. not only do we have a huge hispanic population, but also a large african-american one and a fairly sizable asian population, too (especially in DFW).
i know people from many countries, and not just because i work at a literacy organization! there are a lot of vietnamese residents in north texas, and just quite the cross section of people from elsewhere. arlington, where i work, has a large number of african immigrants as well.
----
this is one of my favorite places in fort worth - the koi pond at the japanese garden. they are all so different and so beautiful and the whole place is just peaceful. and again, i live only a very short walk away.
----
sorry for all the backblips (again). i really am. i wish i could catch back up on comments, too. but i'm running a project for texas 4000 on top of work and just generally finding myself swamped. but i love you all! thank you for being a part of blip and stopping in.
