Black & White: Dawn, Derwentwater

I was fortunate not to be on the school run this morning, so I treated myself to an early visit to Strandshag bay, Derwentwater, I set this one up just after 8am, just as the sun was illuminating the snowy tops. Catbells just has a slight sprinkling on the top; higher fells have a good covering.

I used a 0.9 ND grad filter to balance the brightness of the sky and the sunlit tops with the shady foreground, in order to preserve detail in the stones under the lake surface.

Next time, I must remember my gloves! it was -2 degrees this morning!
