Day & Night

Over in Liverpool again today. I have always loved this statue since i was a kid but a lot of people dont even know its there.

Its at the back of the ventilation shaft that takes away fumes from one of the mersey tunnels (a beautiful art deco/ egyptian peice of architecture in its own right) and is one of a pair of statues called night & day. This is 'Day'.

Its by an artist called Edmund C Thompson and is carved out of Basalt which i think is a beautiful stone.


Piece of useless info that i love, basalt is a volcanic rock made from cooling lava, its what actually comprises the dark patches on the moon that we can see from earth. They formed when volcanoes erupted on the moon billions of years ago.
