Sorrow

I'm not a great fan of sculptures like this, generally. I mean, I can appreciate that they're beautifully carved and detailed but I find them very emotionless.

However, this one really tugs on the heartstrings, she looks so sad. It caught my eye last thursday when I was first at Grange Cemetery.

(I'd probably look quite sad if one side of my nose had chipped off like hers has.... but at least this statue faired better than the one a few headstones along which was missing an arm and a wing).
