Met up with the ranger this afternoon and walked around the reserve looking at the old ponds and some slit trenches from the second world war that have recently been uncovered during some clearance work. It was sunny but really cold so the spaniel and I headed over this little rise and down into the medieval sandstone quarry to get some shelter. Unfortunately the spaniel found the remains of a fox - the skull, backbone and pelvis still joined together - took me ages to get it off him. He's now sulking in his bed.
