Parkgate Quay

In the 18th century, this was an important port and ships regularly sailed from here to Ireland and elsewhere. Apparently Handel stayed here before setting off for Dublin.

Since then the River Dee has silted up and the place is no use as a port at all. Even in 1939 the place looked very different. Not many mussels out there now.

I'm not sure about the gap in the quay wall, nor the brass fitting. They're every 10m or so along the wall. I guess they were used to tie up boats or somesuch.
