Thursday at the Gardner Museum
A museum is a place where one should lose one's head.
Renzo Piano
Architect of the new expansion to the Isabella Stewart Gardner Museum
Renzo Piano interview
I did change my original photo, photography is forbidden at the palace/museum, but first floor shots inside the new expansion were allowed. We are museum members, but had complimentary passes for our friends, K&D today as well. It was a late celebration of K's birthday, he & D love the museum as well and T's 25 year anniversary at her job.
I'm not one for change, especially at a sacred spot so close to my heart, but I think it all worked for me, the new and the old. It will take more visits to get it to gel perfectly in my brain and heart, but other than the bilious green elevator(!!!) it was tasteful, bright and friendly.
Today, the museum/palace had her best dress on in my estimation, the same, but different, with the Tapestry Room looking again like the elegant showpiece it was intended to be. The concerts will now be held in the new space with ample seating, and well designed acoustics. The Tapestry Room, walls lined with amazing textiles, a newly buffed tile floor and amazing fireplace will still hear the tinkling of the piano as local music students drop in to play.
I love you, Mrs. Jack, for your gift that keeps on giving.
For the Record,
This day came in with temperatures a bit more like February.
