Dunnock
I made it into the garden today for some mild birdwatching.
Prunella modularis
If I hide behind this twig and close my eyes, she won't see me!
A greatly overlooked bird, mainly on account of its great camoflage as they hop quietly about in the undergrowth. They used to be known as Hedge Sparrows but this has mostly fallen into disuse since Dunnocks are not related to sparrows at all. Dunnock come from dunn cock which means, er, grey-brown bird!
Despite their cute appearance they have highly complicated sex lives with both males and females mating with several other birds. A nest may contain chicks from more than one male.
