The Crammond Brig Crossover Manoeuvre...

I hereby register the first recorded instance of the Crammond Brig Crossover Manoeuvre.

There is a pedestrian crossing at Crammond Brig just before the road turns into the proper national speed limit leaving Edinburgh. You have the option of stopping here whilst cycling to out to get across the road or you can head on past in the hope that a gap in the traffic will allow you to at least get to the central reservation and the more forgiving inbound side.

I worked out an alternative the other day which I christen the Crammond Brig Crossover Manoeuvre and I pulled off perfectly today.

About 10 metres before you get to the pedestrian crossing, hop onto the pavement and slow to just over a walking pace. As you pass the crossing, hit the button, then hop back onto the road. The timing should be just perfect to stop the traffic and allow you to get to the central reservation at the Crammond Brig restaurant without any waiting.

Notes on The HUBShot...
This point is the just before the apex of the hill that takes me down to my house. A rather brutal way to end a cycle from Edinburgh but more importantly is the end of a full 5 day week of cyclo-commuting. This is the first week since I started doing this that I've not graced public transport with my presence once and I clocked about 100 miles whilst doing it.. A fitting HUB Shot excuse.
