Composition No 478: Homai Vyarawala Photographer
India's first woman photo-journalist Homai Vyarawala has died, aged 98, in the western Indian city of Baroda in Gujarat state.
She was famous for her photographs of a series of key events before India's independence.
Individual in style, she often took images of public figures from a low perspective in order to make them look larger than life.
Ghandi (not a tall man) once swore at her due to his hatred of flash photography and remarked that the press crowd were very rude for making her stoop so low.
This image is in keeping with Vyarawala's sense of perspective. Church of St Ninians, Oyne
