30 DAY CHALLENGE - CLOUDS

Finding clouds posed a real challenge on this crisp sunny day. I did manage to take some quite (technically) acceptable pictures of small fluffy clouds, but they were boring compared to the eye-catching images available as I took the train to Gourock and met a pal off the Kilcreggan Ferry. So here, instead of a cloud picture is the new Dunoon ferry in the foreground and the Kilcreggan Ferry (with my pal on board!) in the background, chugging across the Firth. And yes, if you look closely, there is a wisp of clouds above the snow clad hills beyond.
When I was a kid, Kilcreggan was the first port of call on MacBrayne's Gourock - East Loch Tarbert run. It took about three hours and visited Gourock, Kilcreggan, Dunoon, Inellan, Rothesay, Tighnbruigh and East Loch Tarbert. It was one of the best parts of a long day's trip home from school. Once we reached East Loch Tarbert, we caught a bus into Tarbert where we grabbed fish and chips and jumped onto a second bus across the narrow isthmus to West Loch Tarbert. There we boarded the MV Loch Eil for another three hours sail on the MV Loch Eil to Islay. Sadly, I can't remember the name of the steamer from Gourock, but I will never forget the chintz lounge, the tea poured from silver teapots, the buttered toast, the brass bands at Rothesay and the destination board which was changed by hand as we left each port. Ah, the Clyde, the Clyde, the wonderful Clyde?it is hard to imagine that just 10 km from where this picture was taken lurks enough nuclear weaponry to obliterate most of Europe. Maybe that's the real cloud in the sky.
