The exotic in the kitchen
Over the years you learn where plants want to grow in a particular house. When I lived in Saltburn, the African violets were very happy on north and west window ledges. They were very unhappy when I moved to a house with mainly south facing windows.
Here the orchids like it in the kitchen. They are crowded together on an east facing window ledge. When they flower, which they do for long periods of time, they get in the way of food preparation, the food processor and the bread maker.
Since they do so well, we tolerate them and enjoy them. It was not until I photographed this one, that I realised just how gaudy it is. Fancy putting a red and yellow bottom lip against bright magenta.
The white balance in this image has been corrected for flash and then the colours have been gently desaturated to prevent damage to the eyes of the viewers!!
Great article in Hexham Courant about our festival today.
Snow promised tomorrow.
Yesterday's back blip in case you missed it.
