The Edge of the Wold

Song thrush

Well, the forecasters were right. As we were setting off to get some groceries for us and another sack of ground food for the birds, it started to snow. By the time we got home from Leighton Moss, the road was starting to get treacherous, and the long climb up the hill to the house was becoming challenging. The snow turned to sleet and then to rain, and now it can't decide what it wants to do, so we shall see what tomorrow brings.

This portrait of a song thrush was taken from the back door like yesterday's of the Boss blackbird - lazy blipping. But the thrush hasn't been a regular visitor to the garden until this last week, but now it has discovered the ground food that the blackbirds love, it may be seen more often. Another surprise in the garden today was a marsh tit, the first I have seen this year (and species 89 on the 2012 yearlist).

If it had carried on snowing, I would have ventured out for a walk. As it became distinctly wetter, it provided just the excuse I needed to spend an enjoyable afternoon in front of the rugby. The cock crowed and the lion roared (though that's putting it a bit strongly).

A year ago, Bob features in an emergency cat blip.
