Lau and Northern Sinfonia

We were back in Glasgow this evening for our penultimate Celtic Connections gig for this year, at the City Halls. Lau did a set just the three of them in the first half, which we loved, and then were joined in the second half by the Northern Sinfonia for a specially composed piece based loosely on Lau's music. I have to say we were less convinced by this - there were bits that were wonderful (the bit where Kris Drever sang accompanied by the orchestra, and the last 5 minutes or so), but other bits where I felt the orchestra drowned Lau out and detracted rather than added. Still a great night though, Lau are a fantastic live band and definitely recommended.
