Journey's end (well almost)
"I'm sitting in a ralway station,
Got a ticket for my destination."
The words of Simon and Garfunkel's "Homeward Bound" were alledgedly penned on Wigan Station. I've no idea if it is true, but never have the words been so appropriate as today.
Some days I am very late getting my blip. Today is the opposite end of the scale, for this is Wigan Sstation at 2:25 this morning.
I know it's blurred but I was in no mood to stop very long, get the camera and the light perfect, etc.. This was STOP, SNAP, GO!
Yesterday's blip was the Gamesmaker training event, this was the nightmare journey home.
We left London 55 minutes late (the train manager was very keen to let us know we were 55 minuttes behind because refunds are paid for 60 minutes).
Anyway, 55 minutes soon became an hour, then an hour and ten minutes and he finally gave up trying to anticpiate our arrival time. The reason was the "unprecedented weather"! One can only assume it was unprecedented because tghis is 2012 weather and the same weather last year was 2011 weather.
Well the train broke down 2 minutes after leasving Warrington so we were stuck on a train going nowhere and no clue as to how long we be there. Yo can get a lot done on iPads, lap tops and phone on a train going nowhere and the Britissh spirit kicked in with most of us gathered in one carriage and various devices bringing us all up to speed with how much we can claim from Virgin Trains.
And periodically one os us would walk the full length of the train to check on the other passengers. Well, someone had to; the staff had no interest in us. We couldn't even get a warm drink "because we've closed thhe buffet".
Eventually the train limped into Wigan, some 3 and a half hours late and we were put into taxis to get us back to Preston.
Frankly I'd have rather taken my chances with the sick train because we had the taxi drive from Hell. Racing on icy roads, ignoring speed limits and his sat nav.
But I always said this would be a positive collection of photos and once again I met some really nice people who were really caring for their fellow passengers, and funny in the situation. The humour well summed up by the Blackburn Rovers football fan, who having seen his team lose 7-1 at Arsenal, came up with "After the day I've had, I'll probably wake up tomorrow to discover Venky's have bought Virgin."
