Fishing from the wharf - Waitangi Day 2012
Waitangi Day today, when we all get a holiday to celebrate the Treaty with Maori which supposedly marks the beginning of NZ as a bi-cultural nation. However it is often a day of protest from Maori, who feel the Treaty has not been honored as it should have been. Sadly these protests are often loud and violent, and people feel that this is not the NZ we really want, and avoid the ceremonies marking the day in Waitangi itself.
Most people just enjoy the day as a holiday - and in Christchurch the sun shone which was wonderful and people got on with the summer activities we have been waiting to be able to do
Lots of people, young and old fishing form the wharf, but I liked this woman with her bright top, and the orange on the boat.
If you look very carefully there is another "fisherman" in the water near the boat.
