Karma Police

Well maybe the Karma Police had to do something about the uncharitable opinion I have about Roy Chubby Brown. Even though at the time of the incident in the photo I hadn't expressed those thoughts.

So, most of the snow on the major roads had gone by the time there was an accident on the M62 but there was still enough salt spray and other challenges. We dropped our patient off at Bradford Royal Infirmary and went back out to the vehicle. It had been idling for sometime as they have a keyless running option that keeps the vehicles heaters going as well as all the batteries charged. At this time of year it is a great feature as the back is all toastie for our customers.

Anyway, we were blocked in by other vehicles and had a wait until they could move to let us out. During this time the engine just stopped. It would only slowly turn over when we tried to start it so there is a Boost Start option for just such occasions. That got it going but when we eventually moved off it was obvious were going nowhere in a hurry.

Despite this we kept our fingers crossed it would get us back to Wakefield. We let comms know were unavailable and attempting to limp home. We made it as far as J27 on the M62 where it all got a bit terminal for poor old fleet number W1478. There was a rapping noise fallowed by a warning light then nothing.

Before long a nice man form the Highways people came by. He nicely told us we could wait in the roadworks for our fleet recovery and we'd have to be towed off the motorway to await further recovery. By this time our shift had already technically finished at 2am but we couldn't abandon the vehicle for all sorts of reasons.

The pic is of the initial recovery truck getting ready to load up W1478. We remembered we weren't too far form an ambulance station and so got the first truck to drop us off there. We waited for some time for the second truck but they eventually got us sorted and back to our home station.

Late off's are part of the job and not many mind when it's for a 'proper job' but stuff like this just, er, grinds your gears :-)

Assuming I have now paid the price to balance the Karma bank, I think I'll hang on to my opinion about RCB if that's OK.
