Mitchell Library
Glasgow's Mitchell Library is believed to be the largest reference library in Europe, with a stock of over 1.2 million books.
Opened in 1911, the original building shown here has a copper roof which is surmounted by is surmounted by a bronze status by Thomas Clapperton entitled Literature (though referred to as Minerva, the Roman goddess of wisdom).
This evening's fog highlighted the lights used to pick out the statue. Of course, the street on which the building is built slops, to it is hard to get a version of this picture that includes some of the ground-level yet still looks right. I know - I spent ages trying!
