Sieving the snow & the fox

I've just been out to check on my chickens. I have four blue chickens, they came as part of a batch of ten. I had four, mum had four and the mother-in-law had two. MIL lost one a while back and her remaining chook died on Saturday. The same day I lost my dog and mum woke up to find the evil horrid so-and-so Mr Fox had scaled her six foot wire enclosure to tear the heads off all four of hers.

So every morning I am glad to find these girls unharmed. They don't much like the snow though! They lay huge lovely eggs with yellows so bright and rich and..... Oh I've just talked myself into poached eggs for lunch. Awful shame that thanks to the nasty fox, my mum won't have the same luxury (unless I invite her round here).
