The Tour Of The Grand Mosque
By 3pm I still hadn't picked up my camera so I decided to take a walk to the supermarket with camera in hand in case I saw something interesting. After leaving the shops I wandered into the Al Fateh Mosque which is one of the biggest Mosques in the Middle East. I have always been a bit shy to walk in for a tour but today a friendly gentleman saw me outside and insisted I go for a tour. There was an Irish lady waiting to be taken as well and so we were given Abayas and head covers and the tour began. The tour guide was very interesting and spent almost two hours talking to us about the history of Islam etc. The 3pm prayers had just finished when we started and the next minute it was time for the 5.25pm prayers so our guide left us up on the balcony while he went down to join the men in their prayers. We were allowed to take photos of them which was suprising. By the time I got out of there is was 6pm and pitch dark. I was a bit dubious about walking down the dark road home so I managed to find a taxi who took me the last few metres home. Quite an interesting day in the end.
